Bruce Gray |
Beki Gray lends her service-oriented attitude, unflappable grace and sure management hand to our office operations. Beki’s professional background is broad and varied, divided between medicine and the arts. She is a hospice and palliative care specialist and nursing supervisor, and also runs her own successful glasswork studio, Ratwife Beads.
Bruce and Beki regard kindness and consideration as high-order values to be practiced on a daily basis, and these values set the standards for our business.
Joining Bruce at the bench is apprentice Scott Folk, who has quickly earned an excellent reputation for outstanding work and responsive customer service. An avid shooter, Scott came to Grayguns Inc. in 2004 with strong skills and practical experience drawn from his aerospace machining and quality assurance background. In addition to custom pistol work, Scott’s areas of responsibility include job scheduling, customer correspondence & quotations, parts design and assistant instructor duties for our shooting courses.
Shannon is our trusty bookkeeper. The gunsmithing biz is quite complex to manage, yet Shannon makes it look easy. She maintains detailed electronic files on all of our clients so we can instantly track work orders and sales invoices to meet your needs efficiently.
Grayguns Inc. also employs a small cadre’ of trusted part-time helpers to assist us with inventory, shipping and shop maintenance. All firearms work is performed individually, one gun at a time by Scott and Bruce. Grayguns Inc. is a true custom gunsmithing firm, not a production outfit charging premium prices for compromised work of indifferent quality. |

| How
to Ship Firearms - IMPORTANT!!! |
|
We make shipping your pistol to Grayguns Inc. as easy as possible. Here’s how:
Under Federal law, any lawful gun owner may ship a firearm to an FFL holder through a common carrier like FedEx or UPS for purposes of repair or modification and receive it back directly. You do not need to ship your pistol through a dealer unless your local or state laws require it. Non FFL holders should not ship handguns to Grayguns Inc. through the US Post Office.
If you have unusual requests, be sure to include copies of our email correspondence or a letter detailing what you want us to do as well. We’ll also need your complete contact information, including phone numbers and your home and email addresses. Take your securely packaged pistol directly to a FedEx or UPS service center.
Affiliated shipping agents such as mailbox stores and copy centers are not permitted to accept firearms. You are required by law to notify the counter person of the contents of your package.
Be sure to insure your package for full replacement value. FedEx and UPS require handguns to be shipped via next day air. Selecting a slower service will save some money but may result in a denial of your insurance claim in the event of loss.

Gunsmithing, Product Development and Technical
I’ve been a fulltime pistolsmith for over thirty years now. I currently am president of a small business, Grayguns Incorporated. Our pistolsmithing activities are primarily limited to two main areas: high grade custom 1911’s and service pistol trigger modifications and competition work. I came into custom pistolsmithing at a wondrous time of wild experimentation when the discipline was still new and most of the innovations we now take for granted in practical shooting had not yet been doped out; I was one of the leading dopes. By simply being present on the combat shooting scene in the 1970’s and 1980’s I had the opportunity to shape the development of many handgunning innovations that have proven to be influential. I’ll cite a few notable examples:
- Currently working on the development of advanced 1911 and service pistol designs for production
- 1997-2001 Designed successful line of innovative competition bullets for OTB Co.
- 1997 Designed .40 S&W variant of P-35 pistol now in production by Arsenal
- 1996-1999 Assisted in development of Tasco Optima/Firepoint red dot sight.
- 1995 Built first practical, electronically sighted 1911 dedicated carry pistol
- 1992 Developed line of trick wire-EDM hammers and sears for various handguns
- 1991 Pioneered use of EDM for muzzle compensator design and manufacture
- 1987 Built early HiCap 1911 prototype1987 Developed 9X21 for IPSC competition
- 1986-1988 Assisted HK in redesign of P-7 drop safety and trigger mechanisms, correcting breakage and AD issues inherent in earlier version(s).
- 1986 First shooter to win major IPSC match with electronically sighted, hi-capacity pistol (using highly modified P-7 M13)
- 1983 Developed 9X23 for IPSC competition
- 1983 Designed fully-supported chamber, ramped barrel for competition
- 1981-2 Built first modern compensated, optic-capable 38 Super “Race Guns” for IPSC
- 1982 Assisted in R&D of Colt 80 Series firing pin safety device and Officers ACP pistol
- 1979 Developed first modern-style high-grip beavertail safety
- 1979 Built first 38 Supers for IPSC competition
Competitive Shooting
I have been competing for thirty-three years, beginning when I was a teenage kid. I hold the highest classifications in all three action shooting disciplines, NRA Action, USPSA/IPSC and IDPA. I have gold medals from several world-championship teams, and have managed to win a number of state, regional and national titles over the years with HK, SIGARMS and other pistol platforms. At the time of my retirement due to orthopedic problems and surgery, I was ranked in the top 15 Production Division shooters worldwide.
Most recently I placed seventh in Production at the IPSC World Championships (WS13) held 2002 in Polokwane, RSA. I’m confident that this is the highest world-level placement of any shooter using an HK pistol, which was my platform at the time. I’m strongest in NRA Action Stock Gun division, where I’ve either won or placed second at the Bianchi Cup National Championships until 2002.
Recent highlights include:
- 9-02 IPSC World Shoot 13, South Africa, Seventh place, second USA, Silver Medal (USP9)
- 8-02 World Speedshooting Championships, California, 2nd IDPA (USP Expert)
- 8-02 USPSA Race Gun Nationals, Oregon, 23rd (USP Expert)
- 7-02 USPSA Factory Gun Nationals, Illinois, 13th, 7th in category (USP Expert)
- 9-01 Golden Bullet Championship, California, 1st overall (USP Expert)
- 5-01 Oregon Open USPSA Championships, Oregon, 1st overall (USP Expert)
- 9-01 Toys for Tots Charity Invitational, California, 1st overall (USP Expert)
- 8-01 World Speedshooting Championships, California, 2nd IDPA (USP9)
- 7-01 USPSA-2, Arizona, 14th, 4th in category (USP Expert)
- 10-00 IDPA Western Regional Championship, California, 1st overall (USP9)
- 9-00 IDPA Nationals, Mississippi, 7th, 1st in category (USP9)
- 5-00 NRA Bianchi Cup, Missouri, 2nd , 1st Barricade Event, 2nd Practical Event, 3rd Shootoff, 2nd Jackpot, (USP Expert)

| FAQs |
|
1 |
Q: Why should I have my work performed by Grayguns Inc.? |
|
A: We’ve been told that we’re very good at what we do, but we’re very open to new ideas and critiques that have helped us grow into one of the busiest custom shops in the nation. Our well-known commitment to high grade work, personal customer service and ethical business practices reflects our core beliefs. We’ll never charge you for anything you don’t need, and we’ve offered a lifetime guarantee on our work for 30 years.
|
2 |
Q: Why don’t you list your phone number on your website? |
|
A: We’ve decided not to post our phone numbers publicly for a number of good reasons. Of course we’re more than happy to talk with you personally and in detail anytime during shop hours. Just email us for our number, or we’ll call you if you’d like. However, to avoid errors we prefer to work on your gun from your written communications, not from phone conversations.
|
3 |
Q: I’m not quite sure what I need for my intended application, and I don’t see what I want listed on your website. |
|
A:
To get started, please email Scott or Bruce (links to email) with your ideas and requests. We’ll respond with our recommendations and a quote based upon your requirements and needs. Grayguns Inc. is a full-service custom pistolsmithing, parts and training firm, and we offer a far wider repertoire of services and modifications than we can list here.
|
4 |
Q: How do I order work on my pistol? |
|
A: Once we’ve helped you sort out what you’d like us to do for you, we’ll put you on our list with an appointment date to ship your pistol. Detailed instructions for shipping your pistol to us are here: |
| |
|
| |
|
5 |
Q: How long will my work take? |
|
A: Most service pistol jobs will require 4 to 6 weeks, depending on our seasonal workload and the specific nature of your requested work. We’ll give you our best estimate of shop time when we quote your work order, and we’ll do our level best to deliver your pistol on schedule. Highly involved custom work naturally can take more time, and we ask you for your patience.
|
6 |
Q: What if I need my pistol back in a hurry? |
|
A: We expedite law enforcement and military duty weapons. Other requests for rush service will be accepted as our ability to find extra time permits. A modest 20% rush surcharge is requested to cover our lost sleep.
|
7 |
Q: The price I was quoted is different from your price list. Why? |
|
A: Flat-rate pricing can be arbitrary, causing some customers to pay too much. Our published prices are subject to individual quotations that take your pistol’s condition and your specific requests into account. We rarely ask for more than our published pricing, and we quote each job individually. Grayguns Inc. will never bill you for more than you were quoted!
|
8 |
Q: I see Grayguns Inc. doesn’t accept deposits or prepayments. How do I pay for my work? |
|
A: We don’t require deposits or prepayments. The way we see it, it’s your money until we’ve completed your work, so we’ll request payment when we are ready to test and ship your pistol. Momentarily we are unable to accept Credit Cards, but we're working to fix that as quickly as possible. We currently accept the following forms of payment: Personal Check, Business Check, Cashier's Check and Money Order.
Our listed prices do not include actual charges for return shipping.
|
9 |
Q: What if something goes wrong with my pistol after you worked on it? |
|
A: We believe God made but one perfect man, but we do make every effort to do the finest work possible. If something directly related to our work fails or malfunctions at any time, we will assess and correct it for the cost of shipping it to us.
